Moylan Recognizes Small Business Week, Calls for Nominations for Best Local Business
05/09/2019DES PLAINES, Ill. – In recognition of Illinois Small Business Week, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is praising the local and small business community within the 55th District and asking the public for nominations for his Good Neighbor Business Award.
“I love the small, local and family owned businesses in our community. They add a sense of pride to Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village and Park Ridge,” Moylan said. “We should celebrate these businesses this week and every week to help them thrive and provide local jobs in our area.”
Small Business Week provides an opportunity to appreciate the contributions of small businesses in the community. Small Businesses are defined as independent businesses with 500 employees or less. According to a 2017 study from the Small Business Administration (SBA), there were 28.2 million small businesses and more than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, creating about two out of every three new jobs in the United States each year.
One initiative for Moylan is to recognize small and local businesses that are providing good service and giving back to the community by awarding them with his “Good Neighbor Business Award.” This award is presented to small and local businesses who are nominated by the public to Moylan’s office to recognize a company’s efforts to give back to the community and their ability to be good neighbors. Moylan is currently accepting nominations at his office.
“We need to recognize the small and local businesses that are going above and beyond our expectations to provide a service to our community and continue to be good neighbors,” Moylan said. “If anyone in the 55th district would like to highlight the efforts of a local business that they believe has done a great job and meets our requirements for the award, we would love to hear about the business.”
