Moylan, Mussman Host Anti-Sugary beverage Tax Hearing in Elk Grove Village

DES PLAINES, Ill. – In response to the newly added tax on sugary beverages in Cook County, state Reps. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, and Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, will be hosting an Anti-Sugar Beverage Tax Hearing on Thursday, September 21 at the Charles J. Zettek Municipal Complex located at 901 Wellington Avenue in Elk Grove Village from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

“This is a terrible tax pushed through by out-of-touch politicians,” Moylan said. “The Cook County officials are trying to nickel-and-dime working families, and I will do everything I can to fight for my residents to repeal this unfair tax.”

At the meeting, Moylan and Mussman will discuss their efforts to repeal this newly added tax. Moylan and Mussman have filed House Bill 4083 in Springfield which would eliminate the beverage tax and prohibit any local government in Illinois from implementing such taxes in the future. Moylan has also launched a petition that supports his efforts to repeal and ban Cook County’s unfair beverage tax, which is hurting local businesses and adding to the burden of middle and working class families every day.

“Many residents can’t afford new taxes and this tax specifically targets many of our local businesses,” Moylan said. “I encourage all residents to come by our meeting next Thursday evening and sign my petition to send a message to the Cook County Officials that we are ready and willing to fight against unfair taxes on working families.”
